A “new place of culture” aiming to accommodate several city institutions – the Biblioteca Estense, the Biblioteca Poletti, a venue for temporary exhibitions, restoration workshops and learning centres, a Centre for photography and image, a language and internationalisation centre with guest quarters – is the theme of the recovery of the 18th-century complex, formerly the S. Agostino hospital.
A large glass ceiling curtain brings together the different functions and parts of the complex. The existing buildings are recovered with structural interventions, of restoration and restyling, in a way that is functional to the use now planned for the complex.
